Ok boys, don’t get excited – I’m not going to write a blog everyday. I will likely post something on twitter but the blogs will come every few days or so.
It was a long exhausting trip, flying from Las Vegas to Nassau and then to this outer island. It is very quiet here, and it’s the kind of place where doors are left unlocked and valuables (even cash) unsecured. Hitchhiking is normal – I even saw a girl of 12ish confidently thumbing on the roadside as if she’s done it all her life (and I’m sure she has). There is no public transportation of any kind, except very limited (and expensive) taxis, which you have to call ahead and wait for. Roads are very limited and people do a lot of walking.
Internet is very limited, and that is what I wanted. It isn’t a vacation if I’m online doing the same crap I do everyday! I have no phone service at all – considering getting a cheap throw-away cell just to have a way to call for rides or something if I need. Or maybe not. It seems like being connected is too much a part of My life and maybe a bit of unplugging will be good. I hardly know what to do with Myself, because it’s such a drastic change of pace for Me.
I can’t wait to film some hot bikini videos and take pics with this scenery!
But, I am gradually slowing down to island time. In places like this, things get done…when they get done. No one gets in a rush. For what? haha
As I rode in the front seat of the taxi driver’s old jeep, all the windows down and My hair swirling gently around My face, watching the randomness of the houses and the tropical landscape roll by, a thought occurred to Me: this man was born here, and has lived here all his life, and I can’t begin to imagine what that would be like. To be born and raised in a place like this, and watch the changes as tourists come through and some of them stay. How does it feel to be so unconcerned about crime that you never bother to secure your belongings, and feel comfortable letting your kids roam free and even hitchhike for rides? And for this to be the lifestyle you were born into? I cannot relate.
This certainly does appeal to Me, and it wouldn’t be that huge a step because I’ve already been accustomed to island time, having lived in Puerto Rico a couple years. hmmm…
